 Dr. Schwartz was one of the founders of Atlantic Surgical Group when he joined Dr. David Averbach in the practice of surgery in 1988. As one of the first surgeons in New Jersey to perform laparoscopic cholecystectomy in 1990, Dr. Schwartz has become one of the region's most experienced surgeons in this procedure. With a particular interest in breast cancer surgery, he also is a charter faculty member of the Jacqueline Wielentz Comprehensive Breast Center, having been an Attending Surgeon at the Center since its inception in 1994. Besides gallbladder surgery and breast surgery, Dr. Schwartz has an busy practice in laparoscopy, hernia surgery, bowel surgery, and soft tissue surgery.
After graduating from Muhlenberg College with honors, Dr. Schwartz attended Hahnemann University Medical School, receiving his M.D. degree in 1983. His surgical training took place at the joint surgical residency program at Monmouth Medical Center and Jersey Shore Medical Center. Dr. Schwartz is Board Certified in Surgery (recertified in 2002) and is a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons . He has an appointment as Clinical Assistant Professor of Surgery at Drexel University School of Medicine. He is also a member of the State and County Medical Societies, and several surgical specialty organizations.
As the senior partner of the Atlantic Surgical Group he practices surgery at Central Jersey Surgery Center, Monmouth Medical Center, Jersey Shore University Medical Center, and Ocean Medical Center. Dr. Schwartz was named in the Consumers Guide to Top Doctors - 2002 Edition (which lists doctors that other doctors use for themselves and their families.) In 2004, he received the Monmouth Medical Center Department of Surgery Chief Resident's Award, presented by the surgical resident staff to the Attending Surgeon who demonstrates excellence in clinical teaching.
Dr. Schwartz was raised in Vineland, New Jersey, and currently lives with his wife and 3 children in Ocean Township.
